Qatar Airways has been awarded the ‘Investment in People’ award by Seatrade Awards 2021 for its contributions to thousands of seafarers.
The airline not only assisted in the return of stranded sailors but also in staff adjustments to accommodate worldwide supply networks.
The Seatrade Awards are assessed by an independent team of specialists representing major maritime groups worldwide Qatar Airways has carried over 500,000 seamen for repatriation and crew changes since the outbreak began. This included over 130 charter flights carrying over 35,000 personnel. Also, the airline’s home airport, Hamad International Airport (HIA), created an exclusive ‘Mariner Lounge’ for sailors and offshore employees.
“The epidemic kept the global supply network alive through the most difficult moment in recent history. The marine industry’s most precious asset, its employees, is our delight and privilege,” H E Akbar Al Baker remarked.
Despite the tremendous obstacles posed by the global COVID-19 outbreak, Qatar Airways never suspended operations and worked tirelessly to securely transport passengers home. Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Luanda, Brisbane, and Cebu have all been added in the last 18 months.
