FIVE AFRICAN COUNTRIES: Qatar Airways suspends service to these countries

With immediate effect, Qatar Airways will no longer accept passengers travelling from five Southern African nations on its worldwide network due to the rapid spread of the new COVID-19 Omicron form throughout Southern Africa.

There are currently no restrictions on the airline’s acceptance of passengers for travel to these countries. Qatar Airways Omicron variants made stops at these destinations:

  • Angola’s capital and largest city is Luanda (LAD).
  • (MPM) is a port city in Mozambique
  • South African city of Johannesburg
  • South African capital city of Cape Town
  • South African city of Durban (DUR)

Until further notice from the WHO, these restrictions will remain in effect (WHO). As more information becomes available, we will continue to monitor the situation.

Qatar Airways has announced that it will no longer allow passengers travelling from South Africa, Zimbabwe, or Mozambique due to the recent appearance of the new COVID-19 B.1.1529 variation. As a result of current restrictions, however, it will continue to accept passengers for travel into certain nations.

Until Qatar Airways receives new information from the WHO, these restrictions will remain in force (WHO). As additional information becomes available, Qatar Airways will keep a close eye on the situation.
